What this site measures
This is my portfolio, sent with job applications. I measure whether an application is being read, because otherwise I am guessing. This page says exactly what that means, because you should not have to take my word for it or read the source.
What is recorded
Each application gets its own link. When that link is opened I record that the application was opened, which pages were read, how far down each one, and how long was spent actively reading — time while the tab is hidden or idle does not count. Alongside it I store the browser's user-agent string and the referring page, if there was one.
It is recorded against the company I sent the link to, because I created that link and know where I sent it. Nothing is inferred about who you are.
If you arrived here without one of those links — the address is printed on my CV — the same things are recorded, with no company attached and nothing to attach one to. That visit is counted, and it belongs to nobody.
What is not recorded
- No cookies. Nothing is stored on your device beyond a single identifier held in
sessionStorage, which is scoped to one tab and disappears when you close it. It carries no cross-site capability, which is why there is no consent banner on this site. The one exception is deliberate and yours: if you turn measurement off, that choice is saved on your device so it is remembered next time. - No IP address. Not stored, not logged, not looked up. There is no column for one in the database.
- No name, email or any personal detail, and no attempt to work out who an individual reader is.
- No third-party analytics, no advertising or tracking scripts, no fingerprinting.
- No third-party requests at all. Fonts and images are served from this domain. Loading this page tells no other company that you were here.
Where it goes
To a database I control, and nowhere else. It is not shared, sold, or used for anything other than knowing whether an application was read. It is not used to contact anyone.
How long it is kept
Until the application it belongs to is closed, then deleted. If you would like the record of your visit removed sooner, email me and I will delete it — you do not need to give a reason, and it will not affect anything.
If you would rather not be measured
Turn it off for this device. It takes one click, needs no account and no reason, and the setting stays on your device — nothing about the choice is sent to me. Or turn JavaScript off: the site is written to be fully readable without it, and with it disabled nothing beyond the initial page request is recorded. Nothing here is gated behind measurement either way.
